Snap Waterguard onto the bottom of the drywall before hanging. The ½-inch profile protects drywall from moisture and gives rubber base continuous backing. It replaces bottom acoustical sealant in the tested non-fire-rated wall.

  1. 01

    Snap on the profile

Match the profile to the board thickness. Place the short front leg against the face of the drywall, align the edges, and snap it on. Don’t pry the legs apart or slide it on from the end.

  2. 02

    Hang and fasten the drywall

Lift the panel into place and hold it tight against the floor track while fastening it to the studs. No additional screws or glue are needed to attach the profile.

  3. 03

    Install the base

The profile gives the finished base continuous backing. Use a wall-base adhesive compatible with both the base and Waterguard.

Earlier Waterguard acoustic test

In the earlier paired ASTM E90 construction, the wall with Waterguard and bottom acoustical sealant omitted achieved STC 49; the wall with conventional bottom sealant achieved STC 48. The Waterguard specimen included LVT flooring and 4-inch rubber cove base on both sides; sides and top retained acoustical sealant. Each result applies to the complete tested construction. Report H7844.01-113-11-R0 applies to that earlier comparison, not the STC 57 or STC 71 results.
