Waterguard
Protects the drywall edge, supports rubber base and provides sound performance up to STC 71.
View WaterguardA specification needs to tell the team what to buy, who installs it and how to check the work. Put those details in the drawings, trade scope and submittal so the crew receives the same instructions.
Identify the moisture protection, rubber-base backing, sound, smoke and fire requirements for each wall type.
Where Waterguard replaces bottom sealant, name the product and the installation detail. That keeps one trade from carrying duplicate sealant work while another assumes someone else is supplying the profile.
Name Waterguard, Waterguard FS or Waterguard Plus on each relevant wall type. Make the drywall, joint-protection and rubber-base specifications agree on who does the work.
For FS, reference BW-S-0078 and the wall design. Show the profile on the outermost board layer on both sides and check that the floor meets the listing.
Detail door frames, corners, changes in wall or floor type and interruptions before the installer reaches them.
Put those responsibilities in the trade scope before award. Check whether quantities need to cover both wall faces.
The submittal should name the product and wall types and include the installation instructions and test reports. For FS, include the complete UL listing.
Review substitutions before purchasing. Check the proposed product against the required performance, edge protection, rubber-base backing and installation method. Send accepted changes to the field.
Check that the profile fits the board and that the crew understands the floor contact, joints between sections and rubber-base detail. Make corrections before the work repeats throughout the building.
For FS, check the outermost board layer on both sides, the shorter leg facing outward and the intumescent strip touching the floor. Gaps between FS sections may not exceed ⅛ inch. Use the complete BW-S-0078 listing for the remaining checks.
Inspect the product and installation while the lower wall is visible. Correct gaps, interruptions or work that differs from the accepted detail.
Record the locations checked, photographs and corrections. Complete the inspections required by the project.
Include the product name, accepted wall details and inspection records at closeout. The owner and future renovation teams can then identify the protection before opening or altering the wall.
